When are you open?

Jefferson County Solid Waste Authority (the Transfer Station) is open 8:00 am – 4:00 pm Monday-Saturday and closed on holidays. All community members need to wear a hard hat. Cash, check, and credit cards accepted.

What holidays are you closed?

We are closed for New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. We close early on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

We are not a government agency – we are NOT closed for Federal Holidays like President’s Day, MLK Day, Juneteenth, etc. We are not a state or local government agency – we are NOT closed for State Holidays like West Virginia Day.

Are you closed for bad weather?

We are a transfer station, so anything brought here must be shipped out. Therefore, we may close for inclement weather (snow, ice, hurricanes, or tornadoes). If the trucks can’t run, we can’t run.

If I am in line, will I still get service if it is past 4:00 pm?

You must be across the scale and unloading before 4:00 pm. A spot in line is no guarantee of being able to enter. 

There are signs posted to help you judge your chances. We are not a government agency, but we have to abide by rules set by the Public Service Commission, the Department of Environmental Protection, and the labor rules of the company that subcontracts our hauling.
